I'm Him By Joe West

Im officially beginning to believe with my whole chest that If i don't start writing down and / or recording every moment of hiphop that I believe is a step in the right direction, I'll turn into one of the Bitter rap fans on twitter waiting for the industry to shut up about Ice Spice (which they wont unless she stops twerking)

Here we have a perfect example of what I miss. Confidence, a little quirky-ness and that all too familiar Jazz foundation that used to be common in hiphop. all grounded in classic NY visuals that you also don't tend to see anymore.

I think people often get so caught up in conflating Hiphop with capitalism that they forget what its fundamentally supposed to be (originally anyway) and that is

Black self esteem in America.

(complete with the classic carribbean tooth gap)

With all that being said, This song is definitely going on my playlists for a long while. and by the way, the Video is a fun watch too. I would have loved to see this on BET back in the day.

(when are we replacing BET and Yo MTV raps by the way? I think ive said a million times now that we need new platforms that are exclusively loyal to hiphop and not clicks or clout)

The least I can do is my own curating for people who are willing to hear me out.
